Disclaimer
We publish general health information, carefully sourced and clinically reviewed. We do not practise medicine on the internet, and this page explains the difference.
Health Digest writes about health, nutrition, exercise and sleep. That is exactly the kind of information people act on, which is why the limits of what we provide need to be stated without hedging.
1. General information only
All content on healthdigest.life is published for general educational and informational purposes. It describes what research and clinical guidance say about populations, not what is right for any individual. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
2. No clinician-patient relationship
Reading this site, subscribing to the newsletter or contacting our editorial team does not create a physician-patient, dietitian-client or any other professional relationship. Our writers and reviewers do not have access to your medical history, medications, allergies or test results, and cannot assess your individual circumstances.
Never delay seeking professional advice, or disregard advice you have already received, because of something you read here.
3. Emergencies
This site is not an emergency service. If you are experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, signs of stroke, a severe allergic reaction, or thoughts of harming yourself, contact your local emergency number immediately. In the United States call 911; in the United Kingdom call 999; in the European Union call 112. Do not wait for an email reply.
4. Individual results differ
Where we describe a study outcome, we are describing an average effect in a defined group, usually under controlled conditions. Individual responses vary with genetics, age, medication, illness, environment and adherence. A strategy that helped participants in a trial may not help you, and may be inappropriate for you.
5. Nutrition, supplements and exercise
Nothing on this site is a prescription. Before changing your diet, starting a supplement, or beginning a new exercise programme, speak to a qualified professional — particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, managing a chronic condition such as diabetes, kidney disease or heart disease, taking prescription medication, recovering from surgery or injury, or over 65 and newly active.
Supplements are regulated differently from medicines in most countries, and quality varies between products. Mention of a nutrient or compound is not a recommendation to take it in supplement form.
6. Accuracy and currency
We work to high editorial standards: we cite primary research, we have articles clinically reviewed, and we date every piece. Even so, science moves. An article that was accurate when published may be superseded by later evidence, and we cannot guarantee that every page reflects the most recent research at the moment you read it.
If you spot an error, please tell us at [email protected]. Corrections are made in public, with a date.
7. External links
We link to journals, guidelines and public health bodies so that you can check our work. Those sites are operated by third parties, and we do not control their content, availability or accuracy. A link is not an endorsement of everything else on the destination site.
8. Editorial independence
We accept no advertising from supplement, pharmaceutical or medical device companies, and we publish no sponsored articles. Where a product is mentioned, we disclose any commercial relationship in the article itself. Our funding comes from readers.
9. No testimonials as evidence
We do not publish before-and-after testimonials as evidence of effectiveness. A single person's experience, however compelling, cannot establish that a treatment works, and we will not present it as though it could.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Health Digest, its staff and contributors accept no liability for any loss, injury or damage arising from reliance on the information published on this site. You use the site at your own risk, and you remain responsible for decisions about your health.
11. Questions
If anything here is unclear, write to [email protected]. For the legal terms governing use of the site, see our Terms & Conditions; for how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
